Ever felt nervous or camera shy?

Here are some great tips that should help you if you are searching for a career in fashion modelling or glamour modelling.

Always keep in mind that it is very important for you to realize that there is more to becoming a model than just standing there and looking beautiful.

One very important factor in becoming a good model is posing, and in order for you to learn the different poses needed for the type of modelling career you are looking for, it will take a lot of practice.

Well here are some great tips to help you relax and have fun during a photography session, because having your photograph taken shouldn't feel like a chore.

Lets start with Posture and general Posing:

> When posing you should always keep a good posture with your back straight and shoulders up

> Never suck your tummy in, as this can cause your ribs to pop out and you will look and feel very unnatural. Instead, slowly hold in your tummy for a more toned look.

> Looking straight at the camera is not always ideal, so the best thing to do is try a variety of head and eye positions: Try turning your head, tilting your neck to one side or the other, or even looking off to the side for some poses. It all depends on the mood you are trying to portray.

> If the pose requires you to look at the photographer, its best not to stare right into the lens. Looking just slightly above the camera would be a better option.

> It is always best to try and listen to what the photographer tells you. It is hard sometimes to get the right pose that the photographer is trying to have you do. If it is too hard or you are very uncomfortable, you should always let the photographer know.

> For a more sexy look, tilt your chin slightly down and look straight ahead.

Facial Expressions:

> You should always keep your facial expressions in mind. Try to close your eyes and imagine something pleasant, then open your eyes and sell that thought so your photo's come alive. If you pose without an expression or feeling, then you are only half way there to having a great photograph of yourself.

> Smiling for every pose is not always ideal. Try something different like a small smile, a pout, a laugh, a scowl, or even a frown. This will give some variety to your facial expressions.

Arms & Legs:

> Always focus on what you are doing with your hands as well as your arms. It is always best to not have both arms entirely straight unless directed to do so for a specific pose. You should bend one or both arms, even if only a little, to make the pose look less artificial. Also do this for your legs because it does not look natural to keep both legs entirely straight.

> Keep your fingers slightly apart and pointed away from the lens.

> Let your hands fall naturally into position

Want a more slimming effect?

> Instead having your weight evenly distributed on both feet you should rest most of your weight on to one foot. By doing this, it will make your poses look a lot more natural and it also gives you a more slimming effect in most positions.

> When sitting or reclining, roll one hip up slightly from the resting surface so that most of your weight is on the back of one thigh. This will also give you a slimming effect and you will look more relaxed and you will look like a star.

> Avoid having your arms hanging flat against your sides. Instead, bend your arms slightly, place your hands on your hips, or try other poses that involve alternate placements of the arms.

> To reduce the look of double chins, you should have your head lifted upwards, by doing this, you will also reduce the look of wrinkles.

For the girls who would like to emphasize cleavage:

Here are a few things you could do that could help you emphasize cleavage

> Lean forward with the instructions of your photographer
> Bring arms together at the waist.
> Clasp hands together below the waist, keeping arms straight at the elbows.
> Cross arms.

For the girls who would like to minimize cleavage:

Here are a few things you could do that could help you minimize cleavage

> Lean backward.
> Slouch only a little (with the instructions of the photographer)
> Keep arms slightly apart
> Raise arms above shoulders or above head

Before you head to your photo shoot, you should get some posing ideas for yourself and pick at least ten poses you really like from different fashion websites or magazines. It will also help if you brought the photo's with you, so you can show the photographer what kind of look and feel you are after.

Take some time to practice each pose in front of a mirror until you feel comfortable and have the confidence of knowing you look great doing these poses. Confidence plays a big part in a photo shoot and it really shows in the end result.

Having some of your own ideas will help make the photo shoot run a little more smoothly. So make sure you talk to your photographer and tell him or her your ideas and you will find that the photo shoot is a more enjoyable experience.
